Thank you

Thank you for telling our leaders that their work on the climate is NOT DONE YET. We need to apply a lot of pressure if we want a real deal. So let’s get more people involved.

  1. Mathew Devasia Says:

We need a real deal NOW! Please don’t let us down.

However lighting a candle in multitudes like this will burn away precious oxygen and add to global warming. Under no circumstances should we be adding to global warming however miniscule our act may be !!!

DO NOT LIGHT A CANDLE FOR ME !!!

  2. pradeep sharma Says:

our voice should not be unheard. In the end we shall be getting what we want to, then lit a candle for me.

  3. Shweta Surve Says:

We surely need real deal now! Please don’t let us down.

The message to be conveyed is important.

Do Not Lit a Candle for me.

  4. O.S.Pravith Kumar Says:

Please dont light a candle for me too, as I support Mathew’s concern. Instead we should develop a different way to show our concern to the leaders. Maybe something which can go in electronic way, light up small bulb for each member by using a solar energy charged battery. We all can contribute a minimal amount to make this big difference.

DO NOT LIGHT A CANDLE FOR ME !!!

  5. Amit Kapoor Says:

I had said the same thing when you said you would burn candles for the Olive Ridley Turtles – Please DO NOT LIGHT ANY MORE CANDLES!

    Regards,
    Amit

    so lets not light candles….
    lets plant some trees!!!

  11. Vineeth Chaini Says:

We dont want differences of attitude towards developed and developing nations…justice should be same for everybody. I would like to appeal to our leaders to think beyond themselves , beyond nations and just think what Earth has offered us and what we have done to deceive it …I hope my pray will count to make this Earth a better place for our future.

  12. Anupa Narvenkar Says:

Global Warming effect is not an imagination or a theory that is going around, we are already tasting its effects in reality. Its time we wake up and start doing something about it because we don’t want to see our children left without homes or immerged in a world filled with garbage.

  13. Savitha Says:

I also agree with the views of Mathew… We should never be stepping over our rules..Let no act of ours add to the global warming in any case. Can we go for placards with lots of slogans written in each card?

  14. Aneesh Says:

I agree with both Mathew and Siddharth.. lets plant trees and not light candles… We need more than that to show our solidarity.. And with that, I suggest we take action ourselves rather than show symbols of our intentions.. Let us make the world a better place.. and I hope we lead by example :)

  15. Rahul Says:

Once again we are seeing the rich steering the future of the world themselves. Why don’t they understand that it is all of us who would ultimately pay for what they are doing now. There would be no rich or poor remaining once we have killed the climate.

  20. Subho Bhaumik Says:

OOps! Sorry, please DO NOT light the candle for me, now that’s what I was feeling uneasy about before clicking the “Light a Candle for me” tab.

    To all friends,

I am doing whatever I can do minimise pollution produced by my actions, I am sure you all are also doing the same, I thought I should just remind once again…Let’s act…Pool Cars..Minimise Electricity Usage..Insist on Solar Water Heating system on the Builder before you buy a house..get your vehicles regularly tuned to minimise emmissions, keep the tire pressures correct for the same reason…avoid unnecessary travel..you KNOW the rest.

  21. Angel Says:

DO NOT LIGHT A CANDLE FOR ME !!!

Why are we even waiting for someone to do something for us??? Like the saying “If you want a change to happen let the change start with you”… I ask each one of you here… who are saying lets plants tress.. how many of you actually did plant a tree and take care of it….Planting trees is not just planting them and walking away…its about coming back to take care of it….I have planted 3 neem tree saplings.. and I go to water them everyday…Have you done that??? Ask yourselves.. you do not have to asnwer anyone… Just be sincere and stick by what you say and do.. 25. sidharth karapurkar Says:

I feel we should plant a tree instead as it will help in reducing global warming and actually make people realise that planting trees helps us. we can also inform our local govt who are destroying forest cover by writing to them and even publishing in local dailies to create awareness

  26. shyam sunder Says:

  32. Chidambaran.K Says:

Will the leaders of the World have sufficient wisdom to shed their egos and decide firmly on dates and periods by which their countries would reduce emission of toxic gases ?
Will the West shed its vanity and fix date and rate of reduction of its emissions ?
Will the West give up its greed for wood that amounts to large deforestation in tropical countries ?
Will the developing countries bring about ecofriendly alternatives to the present day polluting industries and also educate its people to reduce pollution ?
Will the nations stop producing, purchasing, piling arms and weapons ?
Will the leaders before Man is reduced to the state of Dinosarus …?

  33. Kaushik Shah Says:

    I simply can’t believe !!!

How we can afford NOT to invest in efforts to reverse THE GLOBAL WARMING?

  34. Vanya Says:

Please plant a tree on my behalf too. I’d be happier. For the “World Leaders” at Copenhagen, I hope the air conditioner was giving out enough warm air, that their champagne was served chilled, their medium of transport was no less than a kiloton-petrol-consuming vehicle, the oysters they had were fresh enough, the mineral water was clean enough and the tremendous amount of earth resources used for this 1 result-less meeting fit to be put in the Guiness Book of “World” Records.

more pollution and it works like a sweet poison .
But we need to search some solutions for all these problems and come out
with the change defenitely we are the human being we can make the difference not only in India although in all over World.

    Thanking You.

To all the elected leaders who in turn are representing their country . The decision what You are all going make today , just might give your / your generation next a better tomorrow. Iam 10 yrs old & writing this note under my mother’s supervision. What I want is India to be rich in just preserving her Biodiversity, her forests, national parks, wetlands, water bodies, mountains .Iam proud to be a Indian as we have the worlds 1 & 2nd largest mangrove forest. But it needs to be protected . India has more Bird life than United States & United Kingdom put together.
We too as Indians should make small changes in our day to day lives. Make our nation go Green. We should be an example to the rest of the world .

  39. Sreeni Varad Says:

Lot of energy has been spent over the past weeks in convening the Copenhagen summit. Lot of carbon has been spewed from leaders and people commuting to Copenhagen for the summit. Its high time the leaders shed their ego and arrive at a consensus. Lets leave our Earth habitable to our children.

Until unless we realize this and act to do some simple measures of preventing climate change, it is impossible to save our earth despite the deal that’s gonna taken in climate meet.

  42. Miles Says:

Dr. Manmohan Singh should not stick to the stand that only developed countries should reduce emissions, Are we going to go down the road the developed countries did and then only start reducing our emissions, I think its time a more pragmatic approach is taken keeping in mind the world as a whole and not a nationalistic approach.

  54. Manu Stanley Says:

All the leaders representing various nations in Copenhagen today are the ones elected by people like us. They bear the responsibility of saving their people from climate change. Collectively they all bear the responsibility of saving this planet and all living organisms on it. Polar bears didn’t vote for you doesn’t mean that they don’t have the right to live. You represent them also. This is the difference between a international political summit and a climate change summit. Let us all start making simple little changes to our lifestyles. Together it will cause a big change to happen.

Basically the mentality that each country is free to have its own comfortable levels of emissions should be scrapped. There should be equitable and realistic goals for all.
If this means that the US and Europe have to shut down a few factories, so be it!! Long have they pilfered from the developing countries. It’s time for payback.
And environment is the most just cause available today, for the same.

  60. Samit Says:

We are seeing what is happening in Copenhagen. It is real sad if we cannot come to a consensus on the climate issue only because of the rich nations stand. However the silver lining is that India and China have come together and the developing world are really looking up to them. I think it is time India and China rise up to the occassion and lead the world to a better future.

Climatic change is a Great concern. Yes we need to look for reneval energy sources without disturbing our ecosystem. This is a challenge for todays’s scientist. My suggestion to all my indian are that if we can use bicycle for travelling (upto 5km) we can save lots of energy and also save our earths atmosphere from dangerous emmissions polluting it. None of the Ministers will take the initiative, it is we the people who have to take the initiative.

  80. Somir Laha Says:

The other way to take care of our earth is to our ethics given in our veda’s. The rishi munis where greater scientist than the scientist of today. Follow their instructions and we will develop into a strong, independent, economically stable & technologically advanced country without even hurting the nature. Our true history should be taught to us. The science taught in the Taxashila and Nalanda universities should be taught, where the chineses, the europeans (who migrated to US) came to study. As we were more advanced then the other countries and still lived amicably wiht the nature. Leave the dirty politics and corruption and all will start falling in place.

  81. kamesh Says:

    I am taking following resolutions:

    1. Don’t sell my existing bike/car and buy new till they are completed their defined life time (may be 10 years) completed or I can find more energy efficient vechicles. It will reduce my consumption from earth. I have read some where that production of a new car takes lot of water and resources from earth and produce dangerous wasts.

    2. Take a jute bag for shopping and reduce usage of plastic by not asking shop keeper a carry bag.

  82. kamesh Says:

    3. Not to use paper napkins

  87. Vishal Gupta Says:

    HI friends,

Let’s look at this scenario from spiritual prospective. In Bhagavad-Gita Lord Krishna Says “This Material Nature (which we call mother nature) is one of my energies and working under my direction”. Everyone is trying to lord it over material nature by wasting these resources. Everything is God’s property and if we try to waste that we get reactions in terms of ‘Adi-davic miseries’- miseries caused by higher powers. that’s why everywhere in the world we see earthquakes, sunamis, harricanes, droughts etc.

Let’s respect Mother Nature. God has provided everthing in abundance but we, in our efforts of making scientific progress, are actually making the conditions worse. while trying to solve one problem we are actually causing more dangerous situations. to name a few: nuclear and atomic progress, cutting down forests to make so called better roadways and highways, use of more paper products like napkins, paper towels for so called easy lifestyle etc.

So let’s wake up and make others also aware of this.

  88. Hiral Says:

  90. urmi Says:

please do not light a candle for me …. and a humble request to all those fighting for various causes, in an attempt to get our view through please do not light candles … do something different so that poor people benifit from it, that will solve two purposes …. for example instead of lighting do many candles you could encourage poor artists like sculptors to make small sculptures of hands joined in request on behalf of each or maybe two people who register …. this will help India at a much grassroot level …. ironically by lighting candles we are unknowingly harming our environment in the attempt to save it … and yes we need to save water too so please do not include it in the campaign … if you do ensure that it is sea water which is inconsumable in any form …. thank you for this bold attempt to save our planet and encouraging us to be a part of it …. :D .

  91. Jagan Says:

Renewable sources alone cannot fully meet the energy requirements econmically for some more time.So we have to use a sensible combination of renewable enegy sources and selected environmentaly frindly conventional sources sources like large hydro converted to run of the river schemes with minimum submergence confined to river basin, natural gas & nuclear energy for base loads.Enegy consevation & transmission losses rduction(including power theft) & optimum utilisation of existing installed capacity should be integrated to this plan to meet the energy requirements.Of course, as the renewable energy technolgy develps further & becomes more viable, they can further replace the conventional sorces. This is the essence of Integrted Resource planning & Demand Side Management which is the need of the hour. B. R. Jagan.

I hope someone hears our worries and does something about it.
